Our Strategic plan for 2009-2011 was launched in the Erin room in Dublin Castle on Monday 19th October. The document updates our strategic plan for 2006-2008 and sets out our priorities and ambitions for the next three years.
Care local would like to thank everybody who
attended the launch, with special thanks due to
Áine Brady (Minister for older people and health
promotion), Care local fundraiser and blogger
extraordinaire Darragh Doyle and the family of
our late founder Mrs. Eileen Coen.
The plan can be read on our publications page.
The directors and staff of Carelocal would like to thank Hilda Carroll and Tadgh McCarthy for participating in this years 'Gael Force West' on our behalf. Billed as 'Europe's largest multi-sport event' Gael Force West - now in its third year - is a gruelling 65KM run/cycle/climb/kayak 'adventure race' that takes place in Co. Mayo and culminates in a hike up and down Croagh Patrick!
This year Hilda - formerly of Carelocal - took part in Gael Force West for the first time and managed to complete the course in an impressive seven hours and fifty one minutes. Photos of Hilda cycling, Hiking and Running can be found here. There is still time to support Hilda in this massive undertaking and help to raise funds for Carelocal in the process. Welcome to CARELOCAL, a non-profit organisation which works to assist older people remain living in their own homes, with dignity, security and company, for as long as possible. We strive to ensure that they remain in good health, both mentally and physically.

All of the staff here at CARELOCAL would like to say a big thank you to Blogger, online editor and all-around nice guy Darragh Doyle, and commend him on his willingness to jump from a moving aircraft on our behalf.
On May 30th 2009, Darragh took to the skies to participate in 'Media Dive' - an event in which 60 Irish media personalities jumped 13,000 feet in a series of tandem parachute dives.
This would be a very big deal for most people, but for Darragh it was a major personal challenge - given his fear of heights! Nevertheless Darragh faced down his fear and in so doing helped CARELOCAL to raise awareness of the work that we do, while raising a significant amount in much-needed funds.
In a relatively short amount of time Darragh managed to raise an amazing €2,139.99.
For the last two years, thanks to a grant, CARELOCAL were able to organise regular social outings for Dublin's older people who live alone. However, due to lack of funds, we haven't had a day trip since our Christmas party last December. All funds raised by Darragh will be put towards our next outing, and we would love to have the funds available to organise this in the early part of the coming summer.
The Lifestyle Sports - Adidas Dublin Marathon takes place this year on Monday 26th October. Carelocal are currently looking for people to run, jog or walk on our behalf....
